We, Denis, then Didier, take over...

1850 – 1960 ... already vines

Our ancestors planted the first vines in Chignin

We only knew our grandfather, Marius TISSOT (pictured here with his wife Gabrielle, who is holding her daughter, Monique, our mother, in her arms), born at the beginning of the last century, in 1906. But it was his grandfather Louis TISSOT, before his father Laurent, who founded the farm and built the first farmhouse around 1850. At the time, they cultivated a few plots of vines for their personal consumption, and sold the rest in the best harvest years to the bistros of Chambéry.

After the phylloxera crisis at the beginning of the 20th century, Laurent replanted a few acres of vines that we still cultivate today. In 1960, our grandfather Marius and grandmother Gabrielle were still working in mixed farming and livestock farming, tending just under 2 hectares of vines.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the valley, in Apremont

Victor Berthollier (pictured with the beret on the right), Our paternal grandfather was one of the very first to bottle his wine for sale. At that time, around 1950, the general practice was still to sell it in barrels, in bulk.

1960 – 1995 … Birth of a Savoyard wine estate

Monique Tissot, our mother,

1963 – It was Monique, our mother, who then took over the farm. She married Alexis, who left his father Victor Berthollier's farm and crossed the valley to his wife's.

This is the beginning of the big change

In 1970 , our parents abandoned mixed farming to devote their entire activity to the vine. Alexis and a few Savoyard winegrowers founded the AOC Vin de Savoie, and he relaunched the Coopérative des Vins fins de Montmélian.

But what a change!

Machines took up more and more space. Synthetic chemicals became essential. Work had to be simplified and labor time reduced to cover larger areas. The "farm," which became an agricultural "exploitation" in everyday language, grew from 2 hectares of vines to 12 hectares in just a few years. For 25 years, the primary adjustment variable to ensure economic balance was the volume of grapes. Almost all marketing was done through the cooperative. Quality, while not completely neglected, was not the priority.

And then us!

1995, Denis finishes his studies and takes over from his father. 1998, Didier after 12 years in another profession, joined the adventure of the vineyard.
It quickly becomes clear that the production model is sending us into a wall and we don't want to make it our job...
