1996 | SAVOY WINES, WINTER WINES
Another time...
the one where the wines of the Savoyard colleagues, and ours,
with labels tinged with baroque and obsolescence (like the example opposite), "entertained" tourists during our winter seasons. But that was without taking into account that the Savoyard valleys possess some jewels where nature had managed to concentrate all the elements. These bits of terroir have been known since the dawn of time but it was still necessary to look closely and use a little perseverance and insolence to awaken this reality. We were right...
2001 – 2010 | RETURN “IN THE STEEP”
On the best terroirs
Our family vineyards, located exclusively in the commune of Chignin, in the western part of La Savoyarde, are not sufficient to ensure the economic balance of our small estate. We also want to concentrate our vineyard on the best terroirs. In this respect, the southern slopes of La Savoyarde are emblematic, but remain uncultivated due to their steep slope (abandoned during the First World War, due to a lack of able-bodied workers).
The bet is strong
So, we brought together the multiple owners and launched the project to rehabilitate the hillside, which had been returned to its natural state for over a century (before, top photo, and after, bottom photo). Two or three colleagues followed us. We created and shared a network of steep paths to access the top of the plots. The challenge was significant; almost no one before us in Savoie had really attempted the experiment on such exposed slopes.
10 years later…
The first three vintages (2005, 06 and 07) of the "Exception" cuvée, emblematic of this epic, propelled us among the 10 or so Savoie estates listed in the RVF Guide . In 2009, the estate was awarded its First Star*. Ten years later, the bet was won. The place became legendary. Capable of producing white wines of extraordinary definition.
